Healthy and Tasty Masala Idli

This is a Recipe for making at home Healthy and Tasty Masala Idli, which can be served for breakfast or snacks or even as a part of the main course meals. The Masala Idli can also be a part of the tiffin boxes of school going kids.

Idli is a South Indian snack, which is most popular all over India and Masala Idli is a healthy and tasty variation of Idli because while preparing Masala Idli I have used Chana Dal, Urad Dal, French Beans, Carrot and given a spicy Tadka.

The Idli batter is prepared by soaking Rice and Urad Dal separately for 7-8 hours and then grinding it together and keeping it aside for fermentation for 7-8 hours.

Preparation Time: 30 Minutes
Serves: 4 Persons

Ingredients
For Idli Batter
2 Cups Normal Rice
1 Cup Urad Dal or Black Gram Dal
2 Tablespoon Idli Rawa
(First of all wash and soak the Rice and Dal for 7-8 hours and then grind it together to prepare a fine paste and then cover and keep aside for 7-8 hours)

For Masala Idli
2 Tablespoon Chana Dal (Gram Dal) (soak)
1 Tablespoon Urad Dal (soak)
¼ Cup French Beans and Carrot (chopped)
2 Tablespoon Coriander Leaves (chopped)
3-4 Green Chili (chopped)
1” Ginger (chopped)
Salt as per taste

For the Tadka
1 Tablespoon Oil
1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
¼ Teaspoon Asafoetida (Hing)
1-12 Curry Leaves

Preparation
For the Idli Batter wash and soak the Rice and Dal for 7-8 hours and then grind into a thin paste and add the Idli Rawa and mix it well and keep it aside for 7-8 hours for fermentation.

For the Masala: Soak the Chana Dal and Urad Dal for 2 hours. Chop the Coriander, French Beans and Carrot. Grind the Ginger and Green Chili.

For the Tadka: Heat the Oil in a Kadai and add the Mustard Seeds, Cumin Seeds, Hing, Curry Leaves and prepare a Tadka. Then keep it aside for cooling.

For preparing Masala Idli:
Take the Idli Batter and add the Chana Dal, Urad Dal, Coriander Leaves, French Beans, Carrot, Ginger, Green Chili, Takda and Salt and as per taste and mix it well and prepare the Batter and if required add a little bit of water.

Apply Oil over the Idli stand or Idli moulds and put the Idli Batter into them and then steam the Idli for 12-15 minutes. Prepare all Idli using the same procedure.

Serve the Masala Idli hot. There is no need for Chutney or Sambar while serving Masala Idli.
