This is a step by step Recipe for preparing restaurant Style traditional and authentic Sambar at home. This is probably one of the most famous of the South Indian dishes. No meal in the southern part of India is complete without Sambar. Sambar is also served many popular South Indian snacks like Masala Dosa, Vadas and Utappa.
Ingredients
1 Cup Tur Dal
2 Cups water
½ Tea spoon Turmeric
½ Tea spoon Salt
1 Small Carrot
1 Small Potato
2 Drumsticks
2 Onion
1 Brinjal
2 Tomatoes (cut in small sizes)
Coriander leaves (to garnish)
For Sambar Masala
2 Tea Spoon Coriander powder
6 Red Chilies
1 Pinch Methi seeds
1 Tea spoon Tur Dal
Curry Leaves
1 Small piece of Hing
(Fry all above Masala ingredients in little Oil and grind)
Preparation
Add the dal, Salt and Vegetables to 2 cups of water in a pressure cooker and wait for two whistles.
Open the lid. Add the grounded masala. 1 cup of water and allow it to boil for five minutes, on a slow flame. Season it with mustered seed, 1 red Chilly, Curry leaves, Coriander leaves and add to the Sambar.
