Sorghum or White Millet Idli

This is a Recipe for making at home Sorghum or White Millet Idli. This is simple variation of this most famous and popular South Indian Snack, using rice, black gram, semolina and sorghum as the main ingredients. The Jowar Idli can be a popular breakfast or tiffin box dish, especially for school going children.

Preparation Time: 60 Minutes
Serves: 36 Jowar Idlis

Ingredients:
1 Cup Rice
1 Cup Black Gram Dal (Urad dal)
1cup White Millet – Milo (Jowar)
1 Cup Semolina (Suji)
A Pinch Soda-by-Carb
Salt as per taste
Oil

Preparation
Wash and soak the Rice, Urad Dal, Millet separately in the Water for 7-8 hours.
Then grind them together into a thick paste and then add the Suji and mix it well and keep it aside for 7-8 hours. The batter should be of a medium dropping consistency.
Then add the Soda-by-Carb and Salt and mix it well and keep it aside for an hour.
Apply some Oil over the Idli Mold and then pour the batter into the Mold or Idli Stand.
Heat the Water in the Pressure Cooker or Idli Pot and insert the stand into the Cooker. Remove the whistle and close the Pressure Cooker. Steam the Idli for 10-12 minutes.
Remove the Stand from the Pressure Cooker and remove the Idli.
Serve the Idli with Chutney or Sambar.
